Wareham results from Sept. 4 state primary
Wareham went to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and cast ballots for candidates in Massachusetts’ primary election. Voters across the state picked who would represent their party in races for governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives among other seats in the upcoming November election. Locally, current State Representative Susan Williams Gifford (R-Wareham) earned 1,099 votes. Her Democratic challenger in the upcoming election, Sarah Hewins (D-Carver), garnered 1,109 votes. Neither candidate faced an opponent in the primary.
Wareham Town Clerk Mary Ann Silva reported that of the town’s 15,116 registered voters, 2,698 cast ballots, representing a 17 percent participation rate.
