With video: Hot temps have people dreaming of cooler days

Jul 22, 2011

Torrential rain, wicked winds, and frightening lightning storms. Wareham has seen its fair share of wild weather in recent weeks. And it’s not over yet.

With Friday's and Saturday’s temperatures predicted to top 90 degrees and heat indices pushing 110 degrees, Wareham is sweating through its first days of sweltering heat this season.

Folks walking around Friday afternoon were no doubt dreaming of cooler days.

When asked what he would say to the people who were tired of the snow last winter, Joseph Flund said: “Stay where you are! Don’t come here!”

It wasn’t too long ago when snow was the source of weather complaints. Remember January? Wareham got 21 inches of the white stuff. January 2011 was ranked as the third snowiest in state history, or the equivalent of 240 shovels and 1,500 bags of road salt sold, according to employees of Onset Village Hardware.

Eight months ago residents were telling a different story about the weather.

"I've had about enough," Christina Crocker of Wareham, surrounded by several inches of snow in January. "It's a lot of snow. We just keep shoveling. I have shoveled this about a million times."

In New England, weather woes are a constant source of aggravation.

“You can never win,” Amanda Revales said with a laugh on Friday afternoon. “I complained about the cold, but I won’t miss the heat either!”
