Gatemen sweep Bourne, will take on Falmouth in Western Conference Finals
With a win Saturday, August 6 the Wareham Gatemen have advanced to the Cape Cod Baseball League Western Conference Finals. The Gatemen are currently on a six-game winning streak.
The Gatemen picked up a playoff sweep of the Bourne Braves on Saturday with a 12-3 victory. Brent Suter (Harvard) pitched a complete game,. allowing only 5 hits and 3 runs, while the Gatemen offense exploded and scored 12 runs.
On Friday, August 5, the Gatemen took a 1-0 series lead over Bourne with a late-game rally. Daniel Palka's (Georgia Tech) 2-run double down the left-field line in the 8th inning gave Wareham a 5-4 lead. Wareham hung on for a 6-4 series-opening win over Bourne.
The Gatemen will face Falmouth in game one of the Western Division Finals at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at Spillane Field.
In other Gatemen news, coming off of pitching the only complete game in the Cape Cod Baseball League this season, Gatemen lefty pitcher Brent Suter was named the Pitcher of the Week on Monday, August 8.
The Wareham Gatemen organization was presented the Cape Cod Baseball League's Commissioner's Cup for the third time in the 8 years of the award's existence. The Commissioner’s Cup is presented to the team that demonstrates the highest level of integrity and professionalism on and off the field, ensuring and enhancing the championship caliber of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
