Cape Verdean Festival cooks up a crowd of thousands Saturday

Aug 13, 2011

At least 12,000 people attended the Cape Verdean Festival in Onset on Saturday for food, music, and of course, family reunions.

"It's a beautiful, beautiful day," said festival organizer Michael Roderick.

Roderick said 106 vendors attended the festival, 24 of which served up traditional Cape Verdean dishes and other culinary offerings, while other vendors offered merchandise from t-shirts to jewelry to coffee.

The event is always a big attraction for attendees meeting with family members from across the globe as well as old friends.

Roderick said he was pleased with the turn-out for the free event, which is funded strictly through donations from sponsors, community businesses, and individual supporters. It is organized by the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association.
