Rain held off until nearly every kayaker and rower was out of the water during the Gleason Family YMCA's Bird Island Challenge race on Sunday, August 14.

90 participants in 66 boats began at Zecco Marina in downtown Wareham and completed a 3-, 6-, or 13-mile paddle to Long Beach in Wareham, Great Hill in Marion, or Bird Island in Marion, respectively, before returning to Zecco Marina.

Choppy water caused the Bird Island route to be cut a bit short, but didn't seem to significantly slow participants down!

The event raised $4,400 to help families and individuals with financial needs pay for YMCA memberships.
