Wareham Middle School closed due to roof leak
Wareham Middle School will be closed for the next two days as crews work to repair a roof leak brought on by snow, rain and seagulls.
The closure affects Middle School students as well as Minot Forest Elementary School students, who are housed in the same building.
Activities at the two schools, including Beyond School Time and CARE, will also be canceled due to the closure.
Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood said the damage affected the A wing of the school, though she did not elaborate on how severe the damage was.
“It was significant enough that we’ve decided not to hold school until everything has been repaired,” she said.
According to Shaver-Hood, the membrane of the roof had been previously damaged by seagulls dropping shells and finally gave way during Winter Storm Maya on Feb. 12.
Repairs are set to take place over the next several days, and with February vacation scheduled to begin next week on the 18th, Shaver-Hood noted that classes at the Middle School will not resume for students until Feb. 25.
All other Wareham Schools and activities will operate as usual the remainder of this week.
