Rochester girl guards Cape Cod Baseball League's "Spaceball" during All-Star Game
On July 29, Arissa Underhil of Rochester got her hands on something out of this world during the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game at Fenway Park. The Old Rochester Regional High School sophomore and two-time All-Star Game volunteer proudly guarded the leagues’s "Spaceball," that recently completed a 6.5 million mile trip around earth on the space shuttle Endeavor.
Prior the game, the ball was presented to the family members of Christine Taylor Green, a young woman who lost her life during a shooting in Arizona in January.
The Cape Cod Baseball League's "Spaceball" arrived back home after hitching a ride on the space shuttle Endeavor for its 25th and final mission to the International Space Station.
The unique piece of NASA and Cape League history now carries the signatures of the orbiter's six astronauts, including its commander, U.S. Navy Captain Mark Kelly, who personally cared for the ball during the ship's 16-day mission.
Arissa spent the day assisting the Green family and spent time with American Idol's Siobhan Mangnus, whom her mother was escorting at Fenway.
