Wareham Police arrest alleged rapist with warrants in 3 states
Wareham Police arrested an alleged rapist who was wanted for outstanding warrants in three different states on October 6 after investigators learned that he was staying in an Onset apartment.
Juan Evora, 43, of 155 Onset Ave., Apt. D, was wanted in Rhode Island for charges of rape and burglary and in Virginia for a warrant having to do with a probation violation, police said.
In Massachusetts, Evora was wanted in Wareham, Wrentham, Attleboro, and New Bedford for several charges, including assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and shoplifting, according to police.
At roughly 5 p.m. on October 6, Wareham Police and detectives from the Pawtucket, R.I. police department attempted to locate Evora at the Onset Avenue apartment in which they believed he was staying. After police knocked on the door, they noticed Evora leave the apartment and run to a downstairs apartment in the building, police said. Evora was found hiding in a bedroom of that apartment. Police said he was arrested "without incident."
Police Chief Richard Stanley praised the cooperative efforts of the Wareham Police and the Pawtucket department for "removing a dangerous criminal from the streets of Wareham," according to a police statement.
