Dispose of prescription drugs on October 29
The Wareham Police Department will host a prescription drug disposal day on Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wareham Fire Department's 273 Main Street station.
Residents may drop off expired, unused, or unneeded medications, which will be safely disposed of by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) free of charge.
"Prescriptions are currently abused by people in greater numbers than cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, and inhalants combined,” Wareham Police Chief Richard Stanley noted while encouraging residents to dispose of their medications. "Non-medical use of prescription drugs is very dangerous and leads to a high rate of addiction. In most cases, people are able to obtain these drugs from their homes, or from a friend’s home.”
Syringes, needles, medical devices, thermometers, and IV bags cannot be accepted.
