Manuel Joseph Gomes, 77, Local #4 heavy equipment operator

Manuel Joseph Gomes, 77, of Wareham, died November 13 at Tobey Hospital unexpectedly.

Born in Wareham the son of the late Peter & Angelina (Andrade) Gomes, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Gomes was a heavy equipment operator and a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #4. He was employed at Don Martin Corp. for 40 years.

He is survived by his children, Angelina Sylvia and her husband Vincent, Kim Gomes, Mark Gomes, and Joseph Gomes all of Wareham and Manuel Gomes, Robin Gomes, and Cheryl Gomes all of Hyannis; his brothers, Carl Gomes of Wareham and Peter Gomes, III, and Robert Gomes both of Boston; Morris Gomes of WV, Alan Gomes of Jacksonville, FL and Philip Gomes, Donald Gomes, Antone Gomes, Ronald Gomes, Benjamin Gomes and Mark "Tiny" Silva all of Wareham; his sister, Christine Andrews of Wareham; six grandchildren, Vincent Gomes Sylvia, John Sylvia, Fallon Souza, Tyrone Gomes, Joseph Gomes, and John Vinst and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Eugene Gomes.

His funeral will be Friday, November 18 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 – 8 PM.
