Tobey Hospital moves emergency room access
As the progress on Tobey Hospital’s new emergency room continues, patients will now be served in a temporary location.
Rather than parking in the South Lot adjacent to High Street, emergency room patients are asked to park in the front section of the West parking lot located on High Street at the front of the hospital.
Patients headed to the emergency room should enter through the hospital’s main entrance on High Street, rather than through the previous entrance at the rear of the hospital.
Patients will be screened for covid-19 in the hospital’s main lobby before being directed to the emergency department.
Patients visiting the hospital for other services will be directed appropriately.
Construction of the emergency room expansion, a $25 million project, began last year. The renovation will quadruple the size of the emergency room, and will add six specially-designed treatment rooms for those experiencing behavioral health or addiction issues.
The new facility will be able to accommodate 40,000 patients annually. Currently, Tobey Hospital sees 30,000 patients in its emergency department each year, which was built in 1987 to accommodate 15,000 patients annually.
The renovated emergency room is set to open some time in 2022.
