Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration Monday, Jan. 16

Jan 11, 2012

The fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration, which honors both the late activist and Wareham students who are following in his footsteps, will be held at the Boys and Girls Club on Monday, January 16 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Honorees are selected by the principals of each Wareham school, as well as the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, Bristol County Agricultural High School, the Boys and Girls Club of Wareham and Gleason Family YMCA.

The keynote speaker for the breakfast is Wareham native Donald Monteiro, MD, OBGYN. Currently in private practice in Melrose, Dr. Monteiro is a Navy veteran who served in a MASH unit. He also served as Director of Nursing at Tobey Hospital before attending medical school.

Dr. Monteiro will honor his father, the late John Monteiro, who received a Silver Star in World War II and was Wareham's first black police officer.

Tickets cost $10 per person and can be purchased by calling the Boys and Girls Club of Wareham at 508-295-5400.
