Town to open warming shelter at 8 a.m. Thursday, schools closed
With thousands of residents still without power, the town will be opening a warming shelter at 8 a.m. on Thursday at the Multiservice Center, 48 Marion Rd.
According to a Facebook post from Wareham Fire, the shelter will be open to those who need to warm up or charge an electronic device. Masks will be required for entry.
The new Onset Fire Station, located at 8 Sand Pond Rd., has a charging station open to the public. Those who need to charge devices are welcome, but the department asks people to limit charging times to an hour. Everyone must wear masks at the fire station, regardless of vaccination status.
Those with questions should call the Emergency Management Department at 508-291-3100, ext. 3196.
A tropical storm brought howling winds and heavy rains to Wareham Tuesday night through Wednesday, causing extensive damage and widespread power outages.
Wareham Public Schools will remain closed on Thursday, as will Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School.
