Janet B. (McGowan) Burns, 63, of East Wareham, died February 14 at home after an illness. She was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Morrison) McGowan.

She was born in Brookline and lived in East Wareham for many years.

Janet was a talented artist and taught students in her studio.

She enjoyed painting, knitting, and swimming. Janet was a member of the YMCA in Wareham.

Survivors include her companion, John K. Gordon of East Wareham; 2 daughters, Jaine M. Burns of Yarmouth and Jennifer Burns; a son, James Burns of Bridgewater; 2 sisters, Carol Greenough of Dedham and Margo of Wareham; 4 brothers, Jim McGowan of Hyannis, John McGowan of Roxbury, Peter McGowan and Steven McGowan both of Boston; 7 grandchildren.
