Town Meeting to decide whether town should purchase Little Harbor Country Club
Town officials’ plan to purchase the Little Harbor Country Club golf course will be up for a vote at the special Town Meeting scheduled for Feb. 22.
There are only two items on the warrant: One to allow the town to purchase the country club and borrow funds if needed, and one that would allocate Community Preservation funds to the purchase — if the Community Preservation Committee agrees to the officials’ plans.
The first warrant article specifies that the land will be purchased for recreational use. Select Board member Peter Teitelbaum said that he thought it might be a good idea for the town to split off some of the land to build condos on. Selling those units would help cover the price of purchasing the course.
However, the recreational restriction means that such a development wouldn’t be possible without approval of Town Meeting, the state legislature, and the governor.
