Police recover weapons and ammunition from unlicensed Wareham resident

Mar 4, 2012

Wareham police recovered several weapons and various ammunitions on February 22 from an unlicensed Wareham resident living on 14 Tomahawk Drive in the Indian Mound Beach section of town, according to a Wareham police press release.

Resident Brian Townley, age 25, was not properly licensed to own the rifles, including two assault type rifles, two pistols, several rounds of ammunition, and several magazine holders that were located and secured, police said.

Townley is due in court on March 20, 2012 and will face charges of possession of a firearm without a Firearms Identification Card (6 counts), possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity feeding device (4 counts), and firearm possession with one prior violent crime conviction (juvenile offense), according to the police.

Townley was also arrested last January, 2011 in connection with a shooting on Fearing Street in the same Indian Mound Beach neighborhood.

There were no injuries as a result of that shooting, but Townley was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of chemical mace without a Firearms Identification Card. Those charges were dismissed, though Townley was put on probation until May 24, 2012, according to the police report from the 2011 incident.

It is unclear whether Townley was still on probation when police recovered the weapons and ammunitions on February 22, 2012.
