Greater Wareham Walk for Hunger scheduled
Get out your walking shoes! The third annual Greater Wareham Walk for Hunger is getting ready to step off.
The walk is scheduled for Sunday, May 6 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 74 High Street, Wareham.
The five-mile walk will head to the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene at 6 Rogers Ave. and return to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
The Greater Wareham Walk for Hunger is held the same day as the 20 mile Walk for Hunger in Boston and benefits the same cause: Project Bread. Project Braad is the state's leading anti-hunger organization and is dedicated to alleviating, preventing, and ultimately ending hunger in Massachusetts. The organization provides funding for Wareham's local food pantries and feeding programs.
Through the Walk for Hunger, Project Bread provides millions of dollars each year in privately donated funds to more than 400 emergency food programs in 128 communities.
The Greater Wareham Walk for Hunger is a way for local residents to participate in the effort to alleviate hunger without the hassle of traveling more than an hour to Boston and trying to find parking.
Participants may park at the Church of the Good Shepherd or Tobey Hospital.
For more information about the walk, contact the Rev. Dan Bernier of the Church of the Good Shepherd at 508-295-2840 or the Rev. Diane Badger of the Community Baptist Church of Marion at 508-369-6291.
