Jonathan R. Nelson
BUZZARDS BAY - Jonathan R. Nelson, of Bourne, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday September 29, 2022 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Jon grew up in Bourne, and graduated from Bourne High School in 2000. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Facilities and Environmental Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2005, and his Master of Science Degree in Facilities Management in 2009. Jon loved doing engineering/facilities work. He worked at Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant right out of college, then made the switch to healthcare where he was Director of Facilities at Jordan Hospital (BIDMC) in Plymouth, and then Quincy Medical Center. Jon transitioned to the municipal side as the Director of Public Works for the Town of Bourne. Jon returned to Mass. Maritime Academy to work as an Assistant Director of Career and Professional Services. He most recently was the Director of Facilities for Sandwich Public Schools. Jon was active on the board of the Massachusetts Facilities Administrators Association.
Jon loved being active. He enjoyed being outdoors whether it was hiking the mountains of New Hampshire and local trails in Bourne, or out on the waters surrounding Cape Cod. He loved golfing and snowboarding. Jon was very handy when it came to house projects and car maintenance, he could do it all. Since the birth of his first child almost 6 years ago, Jon loved spending time with his kids. They would go hiking, to the beach, or stay home and wrestle. Jon was always working on house projects with his kids as his helpers, and loved sharing his knowledge of engineering with them.
Jon is survived by his wife of 17 years Alison (Saluti), and their three children, Jack, Zeke and Ariel. He is also survived by his parents, Patricia and James Nelson of Bourne; his brother Jake and his wife Katie of Las Vegas; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends.
