Benefit for Best Buddies at Salerno's this Friday

Mar 27, 2012

John Salerno, the owner of Salerno's Function Hall in Onset, knows what a difference the Best Buddies program can make.

His 23-year-old son Christopher has had cerebral palsy for most of his life, and John saw the impact the program had on both Christopher and his "Best Buddy" Adam Alexander, both of Wareham.

Best Buddies is a program that creates opportunities for volunteers to establish one-on-one friendships with people with intellectual and development disabilities. There are almost 1,500 middle school, high school, and college chapters, and the program has a presence in the United States and in 50 countries.

"Best Buddies allowed [Christopher and Adam] to come together and make both people feel comfortable. It was a benefit to both of them," said Salerno about the Best Buddy relationship.

In an effort to support the Wareham chapter of Best Buddies, Salerno's Function Hall will be host a fundraiser for the program on Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m.

The event will feature Linda Calise, a local jazz singer from Onset, who will perform songs from her debut album "La Vie en Rose."

Tickets cost $25 per person, and the event will offer heavy hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, dancing, and auctions. All proceeds will benefit the Wareham's chapter of Best Buddies.
