Police recover more than $3,000 from multiple vehicle burglaries
A 19-year-old East Wareham man was arrested on Sunday, March 25, after he allegedly smashed the windows of locked motor vehicles and stole jewelry, electronics, and personal items.
The incidents occurred in the area of Routes 6 and 28 in East Wareham. After Wareham Police Officer James White discovered that personal property was left inside one of the victim's vehicles, an investigation led police to John Hailey's 18 Catherine Court home, where they recovered property totaling more than $3,000, according to a police statement.
Three vehicles inside the mobile home park in which Hailey resides were among those broken into, though police are currently aware of six victims, according to the statement.
Hailey has been charged with 6 counts of breaking-and-entering into a motor vehicle (a felony), 6 counts of destruction of personal property above $250, and 5 counts of larceny above $250, police said. Police found a hammer/hatchet at Hailey's home and also charged him with possession of a burglarious instrument.
Hailey was arraigned at Wareham Fourth District Court on March 26.
