Police nab fugitive after almost 2 years via 'Text-A-Tip' program
Editor’s note: Charges against Jason Irving were dismissed for failure to prosecute on June 6, 2015.
A Rhode Island man who disseminated pornography to a minor child in Wareham in 2010 has been arrested, police said.
An anonymous tipster provided information as to the whereabouts of 35 year-old Jason Irving, resident of 202 Columbus Avenue in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, through the Wareham Police Department's "Text-A-Tip" program, according to the police.
Irving, who had an outstanding warrant on him regarding a charge of disseminating obscene matter (pornography) to a minor child, was arrested in Rhode Island and waived extradition to Massachusetts at the Providence 6th District Court on March 29, police said.
During the June 2010 incident, officers of the Wareham Police Department came upon Jason Irving in a parked vehicle in a lot close to Charge Pond Road at approximately 2 a.m., police said.
During investigation, officers found that Irving intended to meet a juvenile female he reportedly met online. Police then discovered that sexual material had been distributed to the minor child during cell phone contact, police said.
Further investigation of the matter led to the identification of the juvenile female and the eventual arrest warrant for Irving who was charged with disseminating obscene matter to a minor, police said.
The Text-A-Tip program allows tipsters to provide information via the internet and cell phone texting while remaining completely anonymous, according to the police.
Anyone can send a tip from a mobile phone by entering 274637 in the “To” block, then entering “WAREHAMPD” followed by a message.
Tipsters can also give information by using the websites www.tipsoftonline.com, www.crimereports.com, or by accessing the Wareham Police Department web site at www.warehampolice.com.
The Wareham Police Department has been very pleased with and looks forward to continued future success with the Text-A-Tip program.
