Wareham Police have arrested three people they say were involved in an armed robbery earlier this month, further charging one of them with illegal possession of an alligator.

After investigating the April 5 assault and robbery of a 20-year-old Plymouth resident, police obtained warrants for the arrests of Robert Mahan, 21, of 6 Windy Hill Drive, 18-year-old Kaycee Hayes of 16 Windy Hill Drive, and 21-year-old Kyle Smith of 5 Tremont Center Road for their alleged involvement in the incident, according to a Wareham Police statement.

On April 5, officers found the victim, who was bleeding from the head, walking in the area of Station Street in Wareham, according to police. The victim told police that he had met with a female and two males, one of which was unknown to him, and the male parties assaulted him and took his cash.

Wareham EMS transported the victim to Tobey Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Mahan was arrested without incident during a motor vehicle stop on April 12, police said. Further police investigation led to the arrests of Hayes and Smith at their homes on April 13.

The three suspects were all charged with armed robbery.

While arresting Smith, officers discovered that he was keeping a 2-foot long alligator in an aquarium at his home, according to police. Smith was then charged with the misdemeanor possession of the alligator. The animal was secured by Animal Control and turned over to the Massachusetts Environmental Police Department.
