YMCA Easter egg hunt hits the pool deck
The Gleason Family YMCA has been holding a yearly Easter egg hunt since 2016, but never indoors. While the rain poured outside on the night of Friday, March 31, kids of all ages dove into the steamy YMCA pool looking for hidden eggs.
“They’re getting a little exercise, having a little fun, it’s just good family time,” said YMCA Special Events Coordinator Cathy Longfield. “Adults are in the pool interacting with the kids too.”
The YMCA hosted two 45-minute egg-hunting sessions, entertaining about 50 to 60 kids each time.
Leaving their baskets on the pool deck, amphibious kids dove and swam to collect the plastic eggs in the pool. To prevent soggy treats, most eggs were empty this year, and kids instead turned in their eggs for candy in the lobby.
After an egg-cellent diving session, swimmers had the chance to take pictures with both the Easter Bunny and Red Robin, the latter bringing a donation of mac and cheese from his restaurant. The candy available at the event was donated by YMCA members over the past several weeks. Participating kids also took home a Scholastic book of their choosing.
