West Wareham restaurant Grille 28, which opened on Cranberry Highway just months ago, has closed, said owner Brian Welch.

Grille 28, located at 2424 Cranberry Highway, formerly operated under the name Pomodores and featured Italian cuisine. But faced with tough economic times and competition from nearby Wareham Crossing, Welch and his team revamped the menu, renovated the inside of the building, and opened as Grille 28 on January 12.

Welch said that he did not want to talk about the current closing due to issues relating to a liquor license. He said he plans on re-opening the restaurant in June, but it is unclear if he will move forward with Grille 28. Welch said he is not sure what kind of restaurant he would re-open.
