Raising (money for) the roof with a Swifts Beach craft fair

Oct 8, 2023

The Swifts Beach Improvement Association held its annual fall craft fair on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Vendors crowded into the association's Pleasant Street clubhouse, selling all kinds of crafted goods: artwork made with glass and sea shells, hoops of fabric embroidered with designs and messages, knit clothing, woodworking, jewelry and more.

The association also held a bake sale and a raffle at the event, fundraising for improvements to the building in which the craft fair was held.

The club house currently has a leak in its roof that needs repair. Kathleen Norris, president of the Swifts Beach Improvement Association, said the leak is a pressing concern with winter on its way.

Quotes for the roof's repair range from $15,000 to $25,000, according to the association. Fundraising efforts leading up to the craft fair brought in $5,000 of a $15,000 goal.
