Elks give big to local groups
The Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of the Elks National Foundation held a recognition dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 11 for its grant recipients and the recipients' board members and volunteers.
The national Elks foundation funds grants which the local lodged distribute. This year the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge chose three local organizations that do community food assistance.
Baby Point, a part of Turning Point, received $4,000. The Gleason Family YMCA received $3,000 for a partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank. Damien's Place Food Pantry received $2,000.
During the recognition dinner, the lodge announced an additional $3,000 to each grant representative.
Special guest speaker and Elk Member Rep. Susan Gifford welcomed everyone, and shared that she had secured $100,000 for the new Damien's Pantry distribution center.
