Public hearing upcoming on Swifts Beach Road delay
A virtual public hearing on changes to the FY2024-28 Transportation Improvement Program will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 4 p.m.
A corridor improvement project at the intersection of Swifts Beach Road and Route 6 was originally scheduled for Fiscal Year 2024, and is now being considered for a later year.
The proposed improvements include a left turn lane to be placed at the intersection, the installation of a traffic light and reconstructed sidewalks.
According to the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, the project is being considered for a later year because design plans are not ready.
Select Board member Alan Slavin said the new proposed date for the project is 2026.
“We worked very hard to get the Swifts Beach Road alignment done... unfortunately, things didn’t work out,” said Slavin. “MassDOT didn’t get the work done that’s required [and] didn’t have the money all completely lined up budget wise.”
The amendments to the Transportation Improvement Program also includes a cost increase to improvements on Route 6 at Gardners Neck Road in Swansea.
