Vikings on ‘track’ for next season

With an opening season in the Mayflower Conference under its belt, the Wareham High School Track Team will only continue to grow in future seasons, said Head Coach Chris Gardner.

“I think it went well, as well as it could,” said Gardner.

The girls squad went 5-3, which placed them at around the middle of their conference.

The boy’s team picked up three wins and five losses; however, it had some injuries early on, which resulted in the team losing some meets it could have won, Gardner said.

The team took several medals in the conference meet, and one in the divisional meet, with Ajay Lopes taking home one medal.

Other players of note include senior captain Alexis Pettersen, whose leadership was “exceptional” throughout the year, said Gardner: “She’ll definitely be missed next year.”

Freshman Ryland Potter had a “great season,” Masaydes Perry had a “breakout year,” and Sienna Cabe acquitted herself as the team’s top points scorer.

Looking ahead to the season to come, Gardner said a goal is to have more participants.

“Hopefully our team is continuing to grow,” he said.
