WITH SLIDESHOW: Ruff Ryders host Platinum Car and Bike Night
Chrome plated wheels, custom fenders, and leather vests called "bullet proofs" with Ruff Ryders emblazoned on the back.
Those were the sights at the 2nd Annual Platinum Car and Bike Night held in the East Wareham Walmart parking lot on June 29.
The Bristol County Ruff Ryders, an organization of motorcycle enthusiasts from Wareham to Fall River, hosted the event and fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network.
Visitors trickling in and out of the event met new friends and chatted while admiring the Harley Davidson and Suzuki bikes on display.
"It's nice because it brings something different to the area," said Wareham resident Tenika Staton, whose biker name is "Tee Stat." "It's a good place for people who have the same hobby to socialize. … Last year we met people we never would have met, people who have the same interest as ours."
The bike night started a bit late at 6 p.m. and featured music from DJ Dre and food from Dell's Kitchen.
There were approximately 20 bikes on display for the kick-off event that will continue every Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Walmart garden center.
Last year the event averaged upwards of 10 to 15 cars and close to 50 bikes per week.
"As weeks go by, it will get better and better," said Ruff Ryder Peter Silvia.
The 50/50 raffle, which is held weekly, will start next Friday.
Proceeds from the raffle go to the Children's Miracle Network which supports cancer research, Organizer Shannon Sylvia said.
In 2 or 3 weeks, the organizers will host a "family night" complete with a moon bounce, Sylvia said.
As long as the cars and motorcycles are there, people will come.
The Ruff Ryders is not "a motorcycle club, we're a lifestyle," said Ruff Ryder Randy Delgado. "It's a lifestyle that people have."
