Wareham native Matthew Goodchild, 38, has died in a Minot Avenue car crash on Monday, July 8. 

A gray Toyota Highlander traveling east on Minot Avenue, driven by Goodchild, collided head-on with a black GMC Sierra traveling west, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office. 

Goodchild was transported to Tobey Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The driver of the GMC Sierra was a 47-year-old woman, and she was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with non life-threatening injuries, according to the District Attorney’s office. 

A Massachusetts State Police Trooper on site said that, while she hadn’t done a full investigation yet, it looked like the Toyota Highlander had crossed into the other lane.

The Toyota Highlander sat facing east in the westbound lane of Minot Avenue, just outside the exit to the elementary school. The GMC Sierra sat facing west in the westbound lane. 

Both vehicles had severe damage to their front ends and the GMC’s airbags had gone off.

Wareham resident Jaymie Dyer posted a GoFundMe link to the Matters of Wareham Facebook page, titled, “Help lay Matthew Goodchild to rest.”

Dyer said it was her car involved in the Minot Avenue accident. 

“It's with an extremely heavy heart [that] we all lost our loved one, a father, son, brother and uncle,” Dyer wrote. “Matthew Goody Goodchild… was my daughter’s father and my best friend and my ride or die. I honestly don't know how we will all make it in the world without you.”

The GoFundMe has raised $195 of its $15,000 goal as of Tuesday, July 9.

Goodchild went to Wareham High School, according to his Facebook page.

The Massachusetts State Police deferred a request to comment to the Wareham Police Department.

According to the Wareham Police Department, first responders responded to the crash at approximately 1:20 p.m. “Serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash,” the Department wrote.
