Regional artists showcase work in Wareham
The Bourne Wareham Art Association will hold its winter showcase in the Wareham Free Library, 59 Marion Road, beginning Nov. 22 with 10 artists from around the region displaying their works in oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, photography and mixed media.
On Friday, Nov. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. the artists whose pieces are displayed in the show will meet attendees and discuss their artwork.
The art association puts on between three and five shows each year with the goal of promoting local artists. Each show also supports the Friends of the Wareham Free Library with 20% of the proceeds from sales going to the organization.
Tim Foley, Bourne Wareham Art Association show manager said the artists for the winter showcase use a range of mediums, with some artists preferring traditional acrylics while others work with jewelry and fabrics.
“It’s a really good mix of artists,” Foley said. “Some have been doing it for a few years, some have been doing it all their life.”
Foley said previous shows have had themes but this year artists are unconstrained.
“We get more activity because you’re not narrowing it to a certain type of interest,” Foley said.
Many of the artists in the association are Wareham or Bourne residents although membership is not restricted to either town.
The winter showcase will end Jan. 2, closing out the 60th anniversary year for the club.
Foley said parents are encouraged to bring their children and explore the diverse works from local artists.
“It’s connecting people with artists,” Foley said. “It’s not a formal gala, just come on in.”
