Dec 15, 2024

Police arrested Lashii Ortiz, 29, of Plymouth, early Dec. 15 following a high-speed chase that began in Wareham and ended in Brockton.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., Wareham police attempted to stop Ortiz, who was driving a vehicle with out-of-state plates on Onset Avenue. Ortiz, who was known to officers and had active felony warrants for armed robbery, assault, drug distribution and witness intimidation, fled the scene at a high rate of speed. While fleeing, Ortiz nearly collided with a police cruiser.

Police deployed "stop sticks," deflating two of the vehicle's tires, but Ortiz continued to drive erratically at speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour, eventually merging onto Route 25 and Interstate 495. Wareham police continued the pursuit until Massachusetts State Police and other local law enforcement took over.

Ortiz was apprehended in Brockton and transported back to Wareham for booking. In addition to the warrants, he faces new charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and failure to stop for police.

Bail has been set at $12,000, and Ortiz is scheduled to be arraigned at Wareham District Court on Monday, Dec. 16.
