William Henry Scott

Feb 24, 2025

ONSET - William Henry Scott passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. Born on December 17th, 1936, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA to Peter and Mary (Ronayne) Scott. Bill grew up in Wessagusset prior to setting out to see the country as a teenage carnival worker, a role he would attribute as fundamental to his future success as a businessman and political influencer. Eventually Bill returned to Massachusetts where he excelled as a mechanical contractor based in Quincy. During this time, he was very proud of his association with former Attorney General & Lieutenant Governor Francis X. Bellotti and Boston Mayor Kevin White.

Bill married Judith (Mattson) Scott in 1960, settling in Hanover where they raised their four children.

With his sharp wit and infectious smile, Bill was a quick friend and beloved by all who knew him. A passionate Red Sox fan and season ticket holder for 60 years, Bill loved nothing more than treating family, friends, colleagues, and the occasional complete stranger, to a baseball game. A life-long Democrat, Bill was proud to serve as Delegate to the Massachusetts Democratic Convention, as well as Treasurer of the Plymouth County Democratic League. Generous with both his time and resources, Bill was an active member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association, and the Onset Bay Association. Later in life, Bill found peace, happiness, and cherished friendships in the wonderful community of Onset Village with his long-time partner, Wendy Higgins. As "a Friend of Bill's" for over 35 years, he served as an inspiration and pillar of support to any and all individuals he met. He loved traveling to Key West in the winter months and will be sorely missed by his "family" at the Banyan Resort. Bill's life is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the ability to change, and the simple fact that the best life is one that is shared and lived with others.

Bill is predeceased by his beloved partner, Wendy, as well as his brothers Peter and John Scott. Bill was devoted to his grandchildren: Meagan, Brianna, Matthew, Krista, Rachel, Nicholas, Isabelle, Paige, Nicole, Scout, Campbell, and Dexter, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
