James R. Spang, 92
WAREHAM – James R. Spang, 92, of Wareham, passed away on March 6, 2025, at Tobey Hospital, Wareham. He was the husband of the late Lois F. (Smith) Spang and the son of the late Philip and Alice (Higgins) Spang.
He was born in Boston and lived in West Roxbury, Norwell, Mattapoisett and Maine before moving to Wareham in 1999. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston.
Mr. Spang worked as a Superintendent Production Manager for Varian for several years before retiring.
He was a member of the Damien Council 4190 Knights of Columbus in Mattapoisett. He was a good woodworker and could build most anything, always thinking and figuring out how to create or make things work better. He built 6 of his own boats. He loved boating and spending time on the water. He was always up for an adventure and enjoyed traveling. Jim had a ready smile and great sense of humor. Loved by family and friends and as one grandson said: “He was a great man”.
Survivors include his children, James R. Spang, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Salem, CT, Catherine A. Hill of Berkley Springs, WV, Mary J. Maag and her husband, Roger of Marion and Doreen L. Bisson of Barrington, NH; a sister, Janet Dunne of Walpole; 8 grandchildren, William Spang, Matthew Spang, Nicholas Hill, Daniel Hill, Alex Maag, Andrew Maag, Elizabeth Bisson and Jeremy Bisson; a great granddaughter, Sophie Hill; his partner Kathryn Aucoin of Wareham; many nephews and nieces He was the brother of the late Philip Spang, Jr. and Betty McCarthy.
Visiting hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
