Town looks to add more parking for Lopes Playground

Jul 1, 2025

With many renovations to Lopes Playground done, the town is looking to add more parking to increase access to the park.

In a Tuesday, July 1 Select Board meeting, chair Judith Whiteside said the town will be looking to add five to eight new parking spots along Storer Street which is across from the park.

The parking will be built on town owned land and Whiteside said the need for more parking is due to more people utilizing the new playground.

Lopes Playground reopened to the public June 14 with a brand new Americans with Disabilities Act compliant playground featuring two zip lines, slides, an accessible merry-go-round, swings, climbers, an inclusive see-saw and many interactive play panels for kids. The gazebo has been renovated, new fencing is complete and and a new speed indicator sign has been installed.

Still to come for the park is the new accessible walking path around the park, improvements to the basketball court, new benches for the park, gates and memorial pickets, existing memorial pickets were not removed.

There is no current timeline for the new parking spots but new signage for the parking will be added as well. There is additional parking for the park across Onset Avenue form the park at Hynes Field.
