Endless paw-sibilities in art and writing contest

Unleash the paw-sibilites with the Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham’s seventh youth art and literary contest.
The contest invites kids aged 5 to 16-years-old to submit a drawing, written piece or both. There are three age groups in the contest: 5-years-old to 8-years-old, 9-years-old to 12-years-old and 13-years-old to 16-years-old.
The drawings can be no bigger than 9 inches by 12 inches but can utilize any form of media. The written submissions can be poems, creative writing pieces, essays, lyrics and more.
Each contestant will be entered into a prize pool and the best drawings and written pieces for each age group will be crowned as the winners.
New this year is the best in show award which will go to the contestant with the best drawing and written piece.
The theme for this year is creatures great and small in the backyard and beyond, or life is better with a pet pal, present and past.
The dog park is accepting submissions from July 7 through Aug. 6. To submit, bring the work to the Wareham Free Library at 59 Marion Road or the Gleason Family YMCA at 33 Charge Pond Road. Registration forms can be found at warehamdogpark.org or at the library and YMCA and need to be filled out and attached with the piece.
A celebration for the contest will be held Friday, Aug. 15 at the Gleason Family YMCA at 33 Charge Pond Road beginning at 4:30 p.m. A gallery of the works will be displayed at the Wareham Post Office on Main Street in September.
Participants do not need to be present at the celebration to win.
