Donna Seabury-Peterson, 65, former art teacher Wareham Public Schools
Donna Seabury-Peterson, age 65, of Harpswell Maine, died peacefully at home on September 26, surrounded by her loving family, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Peterson of Harpswell, ME; her three children, Brandon Cardoza of Wareham, Job Cardoza and his wife Monica (Botelho) Cardoza of Attleboro, Kendra (Cardoza) Andrade and her husband Leslie Andrade of Wareham; her step-children, Heidi (Peterson) Nye and her husband Steve Nye of Marion, Derek Peterson and his wife Amy (Almsteier) Peterson of Laguna Niguel, CA. She was a loving Grandmother to Drayson and Desman Andrade, Lucina Mavrelion, Jessica and Jared Nye, and Joseph Rocco Peterson; and great-grandmother of Makaylee Melcher. She was also a beloved older sister to Shirley Hoskins and her husband Mike of Woburn, Mary “Mimi” Seabury and Rose Linskey of Newburyport, and Donald Seabury of Naples Fla., and sister-in-law to Lucky and Ginny Oppedisano. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins, as well as many friends. Donna was predeceased by her mother Mary Seabury, and her daughter Courtney Cardoza.
She was born and raised in Arlington and lived in Boston for many years before moving to Wareham in 1971. She later moved to Harpswell, ME where she spent the rest of her wonderful life.
Donna graduated from Boston University in 1964 with a bachelor of science in education. She then studied art abroad in Rome, Italy, in 1968. She worked as an art teacher for the Wareham School system as “Mrs. Cardoza” for many years, where she was an inspiration to many of her students. She then went on to start her own custom silk screening company, Cape Cod Serigraphics, Ltd. in 1981. Donna married Joseph Peterson in 1996 and moved to Harpswell, Maine, where she worked as a co-lead at Bowdoin College. Donna was an accomplished painter and exhibited her work at a variety of venues. She also illustrated and co-authored the children’s book “The Adventures of Skiff the Harbormaster’s Cat."
Donna enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling with her husband Joe. They loved to spend their winters in their second home, located in Naples, Fla. She also loved to spend time with her family and play with her adorable grandchildren.
Donna was a beautiful, caring, amazing woman who was truly the heart of her family. She will always be remembered and missed by many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham.
