Wareham sends colorful collages to troops
Deployed troops and wounded soldiers will be getting a colorful pick-me-up on behalf of the Wareham community.
Launched at the Swan Festival in July, Community Collages For Our Troops asked the community to help paint large murals to brighten up the days of troops serving overseas and in Fort Belvoir's Wounded Warrior Battalion.
Three collages were completed, and a fourth was painted during Wareham's Veterans Day events.
The collages, along with greetings from the Wareham area, and a photo journal of the events, were given to Dylan DeSilva at his Cape Cod Cares for the Troops' annual Christmas Care Packing Party, held Nov. 17 in Bourne.
"Tots to seniors created patriotic and local images on large pieces of canvas donated by Sperry Tents," explained Sally Morrison, who coordinated the effort. "It was to be a one-day event, but was so well received that the collages were part of two Wareham Village Association 'Main Street Madness' [events on] Fridays."
Community Collages will continue to travel to events, businesses, schools, and organizations, and a project focused on creating artwork for wounded soldiers — Wounded Warrior Masterpieces — is being developed.
