Marilyn J. (Curtis) Holmes, 79, of East Wareham, died Dec. 29, in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. She was the widow of the late Robert L. Holmes and the daughter of the late Mahlon G. and Helen E. (Petty) Curtis.

She was born in Bangor, Maine, and raised in Westport, Mass. She lived in Wareham since 1974.

Mrs. Holmes was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean War.

Mrs. Holmes worked as a seamstress for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy for more than 17 years before retiring.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth G. Holmes and his wife, Diane, of Ketchikan, Alaska, Mark D. Holmes of Calera, Alabama, Robert A. Holmes of Bristol, CT, and Brian W. Holmes and his wife, Sandy, of Lakeville; a brother, Wayne Curtis of Westport; 4 grandchildren, Derek, Catherine, Douglas, and Stephanie Holmes; 3 great-grandchildren, Andrea Holmes, Aaliyah Gregory, and Nahla Medina.

Her funeral will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery.
