Sports Roundup: week of May 6
Baseball
The losing streak continues as the Vikings fell to Old Rochester 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Viking bats were silenced by Nick Filloramo who gave up only three hits in the game and struck out 12. Filloramo was equally effective from the plate, driving in two runs and reaching base four times with a single, a double, and two walks. Mike Sullivan took the loss.
Girls Track
MaryGrace Brogioli continues to star in the highlight reel, despite Wareham Girls Track's 0-5 season. Brogioli jumped the farthest for the day once (15-4 1/4 in the long jump) and three times (30-3 ¾ in the triple jump), and then she ran and jumped the fastest lots of times in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:21. Eileen Tierney, meanwhile jumped the highest, with a Division 3 qualifying jump of 4-11.
Brianna King outran the field in the 100 meters with a time of 13.1, while Marley Harunk outran the field in the 200 meters with a time of 27.9. Sadly, the Lady Vikings were not able to turn individual success into team victory, falling to Seekonk 81 2/3 to 46 1/3.
Girls Tennis
The girls team was shut out 5-0 in matches against rival Old Rochester last Wednesday.
Wareham's second doubles team of Kayla Wyatt and Amelia Topoulus won the only match against Case on the next day. The two juniors defeated their opponents Briana Sousa and Anabel Berjon 6-4, 6-4.
