Selectmen on Tuesday approved a request from Browne’s Package Store to move from its current location at the Shaw's plaza on Route 6 to a new store being constructed down the road, just east of the Wareham Country Market.

“It looked like the new building is almost done,” noted Selectmen Chair Steve Holmes.

“We’re trying to move in by April,” said manager Monika Johar, who appeared before the board at the public hearing on the change of location.

Some confusion arose as to who the landlord of the building is, as it was listed on the application as 189 Marion Road LLC.

Town Attorney Richard Bowen pointed out that, if landlord information is not included on the application, the state's Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission will reject the application even if it has Selectmen's approval.

As it turns out, Karan Johar is the owner of 189 Marion Road LLC, who will be leasing the property.

The Johar family also owns Mayflower Liquors on Cranberry Highway.

Monika Johar told Wareham Week that she would prefer not to comment further on the project until she is closer to opening the doors at the new location.
