Wareham feeds the need

May 11, 2010

Last week, the Board of Selectmen declared May "Wareham Feeds the Need" month in recognition of the many events being held to support food pantries.

The Boys & Girls Club will host the "Cans Across the Track" food donation event at Wareham High School on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The club, along with members of Wareham High School's Code Club, a community-service organization, will gather all food donated during its food drive, which began early this month, and line up the items on the high school's track. They hope to have enough cans to extend all the way across the track.

The food will be given to various Wareham food pantries. The club will be accepting donations until May 14. Donations can then be dropped off at the high school track during the event.

Another "Feed the Need" event will take place on May 28 and 29. Community Resources Network is sponsoring "Stone Soup Day" at the Wareham Shaw's, Stop & Shop, and Wareham Country Market. It will collect non-perishable food for local pantries.
