Vikings win first tournament game, play Case on Friday

Feb 28, 2013

The Viking boys toppled Norwell High School at home on Wednesday, with a score of 78-57, in Wareham's first game of state tournament play.

While the boys won by what appears to be a comfortable margin, coach Kevin Brogioli said the game was closer than the final score indicates.

"Even going into the fourth quarter it was a five point game," says Brogioli.

With senior Jeff Houde disqualified from play following an arrest Saturday (click here for that story), Quintin Silveira stepped in and he did not disappoint, putting up 21 points and 15 rebounds.

"Quintin had a career game," said Brogioli. "By far the best game of his career, and a  good time to have it."

There was some uncertainty about whether the top-seeded Vikings would be able to enjoy home court advantage for the game, after residual problems from the Blizzard of 2013 caused the gym floor to bubble.

Fortunately, speedy repairs saved the day.

The Vikings next play Case High School this Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m., here in Wareham.

Wareham has beat Case twice already this year, although last time it was by a slim five point difference.

"It's tough to beat a team three times in one season...they're coming in with confidence knowing they gave us a tough game last time," says Brogioli.
