Girls track looks ahead following loss
Overmatched but not overwhelmed, the Wareham girls track team lost to a superior Old Rochester Regional High School squad at its April 8 meet.
“ORR is really good, there’s no hiding that,” girls’ coach Christopher Gardner said. “They’ve got the quality and the quantity. We’ve got the quality, but not the quantity.”
Wareham scored 45 points to ORR’s 82. Gardner said there were some bright spots.
Maddie St. Julien’s 29’ 9.5’’ jump earned first place in the triple jump competition. Other first place finishers include: Caitlyn Berger (discus) with a throw of 94’1’’, Aliyah Alley (400-meters) 60.7 seconds, Emily Cummings, Alley, St. Julien and Katie Cunningham (4-by-100 meter relay) 54.4 seconds.
Results from Alley, Berger, and Paige Fehskens, who ran the 800-meter in 2 minutes and 31.3 seconds, qualified them for the Division 3 State Championship.
Despite the loss, Gardner said the team is looking forward.
“It’s not important how you play in the beginning of the year,” he said. “The last meet is the most important one.”
