That’s no fish tale: Derby nets success for youth group

Despite less than ideal weather conditions, about 200 people spent the early hours of June 4 on Tihonet Pond in Wareham for the Annual Wankinquoah Tihonet Pond Fishing derby hosted by Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club in Middleboro. A.D. Makepeace was the host sponsor. 

Fishing began at 6 a.m. Bait sold out in a record 30 minutes.

Proceeds benefit the youth group of the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club in Middleboro.

Awards were presented in a variety of categories

Largest Fish Caught, Adult: First place, Thomas Nihtila, 3.7 pound bass; second, Mike Barrows, third, Chris Ellis. 

Most Fish Caught, Adult: 11, Adam Boutin

Rarest catch: Mussel, Peter Ferranti

Most Pan Fish, Kids: First, Raymond Tiernan; Second, Christopher Brown; Third, Dorian Zahara.

Largest Fish Caught, Kids: First, Candence McKay, 10 ounces, bass; Second, Phillip Heath; Third, Wyatt Park. 

Largest Fish Caught, Teens; First, John Varden, Two pound, two ounces, bass; Second: Michael McGrath; Third: Vincent Giuffre.
