A ‘fun day’ in honor of Ashley Faye
Friends and family of Ashley Faye, adorned with matching t-shirts and colorful leis, came together for the Ashley Faye Family Fun Day on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Held at Onset’s Dudley L. Brown VFW Post 2846, the fun day is a celebration in honor of Faye who died suddenly at the age of 22 in 2015.
“Ashley was the funniest one in the bunch,” said Myrna Amado, Faye’s mother and organizer of the family fun day. “Everyone would always sit down and listen to her stories.”
This year marked the 7th annual family fun day, which was celebrated in a family barbeque fashion with a potluck and yard games
As attendees mingled and celebrated the life of Faye, children jumped in a bouncy house, played cornhole and chased balloons in an inflatable bubble.
Faye was a lifelong Wareham resident and a 2010 graduate of Wareham High School. Now, the family fun day is held to celebrate her life and give to her community.
“We get everybody together in memory of Ashley — for her legacy,” explained Kayla Vasconcelos, a friend of Faye’s who has been volunteering at the event since 2016.
“I don’t stop thinking about her and neither do her best friends,” said Amado. “It’s all about love for Ashley — everyone here loves Ashley.”
100 percent of the proceeds from the family fun day go back to the children in the community, said Amado.
Donations are made to organizations such as the Wareham Free Library, the Wareham chapter of the New Bedford Boys and Girls Club, as well as the Plymouth County Sheriff’s D.A.R.E. program.
“It keeps the community together — it holds us all together,” said Amado.
Snow cones, hot dogs and raffle tickets were sold by over 30 volunteers who knew Faye.
“It’s nice that we are keeping her memory alive and seeing the community coming together,” said Rayanna Rezendes, one of Faye’s friends.
