15 Wareham High seniors earn free tuition

Mar 19, 2022

Fifteen members of Wareham High School’s senior class have earned the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, which guarantees them four years of free tuition at public college or university in Massachusetts.

The scholarship is based on academic achievement, and is the state’s only merit-based tuition waiver program.

The scholarship winners are: Amaya Anderson, Evelyn Delorie, Cedrick Georges, Chloe Hogan, Bridgid Irving, Jenna Klemp, Juan Martinez, Isabella Mombrini, Madison Murphy, Adrienne Padden, Olivia Powers, Emilyann Schluter, Katelyn Trask, Austin Tripp and Abby Wiksten.

The scholarship is given out to students based on their scores on the three MCAS tests they take in the 10th grade: English Language Arts, Math, and Science. Students must earn an “advanced” score on at least one test and at least “proficient” on the other two. Additionally, their combined scores must put them in the top 25% of students in their class.

Due to the pandemic, these students saw their 10th grade MCAS exams canceled, but some chose to take the tests anyway in a later semester for the chance to earn the scholarship.

These students must enroll in a state school this fall to use their scholarship, which will cover their tuition for the next four years, provided they maintain a GPA of at least 3.0. Students are still responsible for other costs and fees.
