2 Wareham students to attend youth leadership summit in China

Nov 30, 2018

Two Wareham High School students are packing their bags for a youth leadership summit in Beijing, China this winter after receiving full scholarships to cover their expenses earlier this month.

Seniors Nicolas Dix and Ethan Osley were officially accepted to the Model G20 event on Nov. 9, each receiving $2,500 from Knovva Academy. The team of international teachers is one of many sponsors that helps to make the global event possible each year.

The summit utilizes a G20 format as an international forum for high school students to learn about and cooperatively engage in global politics. The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an international forum that brings together the world's 20 leading industrialized and emerging economies.

The summit Dix and Osley will attend in China consists of a 3-day educational program designed to enhance leadership skills through lectures, workshops and simulations.

“We’re very proud of these two students,” said Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood at the Nov. 29 School Committee meeting. “Their acceptance to this program is simply outstanding.”
