24th Annual Onset Blues Festival returns Aug. 6
Blues music and brews will be on tap Aug. 6 when the 24th Annual Onset Blues Festival returns to the Lillian Gregerman Bandshell.
Hosted by the Onset Bay Association, the event serves as a major fundraiser for the group, which keeps Onset lively throughout the summer with a series of concerts, shows and family events.
Tickets cost $25 if purchased before the show and $30 at the gate. Buy tickets online at www.onsetbluesfestival.com or in person at the Onset Bay Association office, located at 4 Union Ave., Onset. Gates open at 10 a.m. and the music goes from noon to 9 p.m.
“Between the food, vendors and music it’s such a great day and a ton of fun,” said Kat Jones, Onset Bay Association president. “We book a lot of regional and local talent and it ends up being almost like a reunion for them. They get up and jam together on stage. It’s a very festive atmosphere.”
Headlining this year’s show will be “Michelle Wilson and the Evil Gal Orchestra.” Wilson got her break after winning a battle of the blues bands event in Boston, which led to her touring Europe and recording albums influenced by Etta James and Dinah Washington.
Other performers include: “Travis Colby Band,” “Heather Twiss and the After Hours Band,” “George Gritzbach Band” and “The Black and White Band.”
In addition to the music, 40 vendors will be on hand selling food and crafts. From 2 to 7 p.m., festival goers will be able to purchase beer brewed by Hyannis-based microbrewery Cape Cod Beer.
Generally, Jones said the festival attracts approximately 500 people, but she’s hoping that number doubles this year. With great food, bands and (fingers crossed) weather, she said the event is always memorable.
“The venue is great, it’s such a beautiful spot,” she said. “You can’t beat the location.”
