911 outages corrected in Massachusetts

Dec 28, 2018

Massachusetts State Police confirmed Friday night that an issue causing sporadic 911 outages across 37 states had been corrected locally.

According to published reports, the disruption was the result of technical issues experienced at Louisiana-based communications company CenturyLink which affected cellphone services attempting to dial 911 nation wide.

Wareham Police urged residents to call the department directly for emergency services in a Facebook post made on Dec. 28.

State Police are now reminding residents not to call 911 or their local 10-digit emergency number to test functionality. Calls should be made for emergencies only.

Anyone attempting to call 911 from Wareham or Onset who still receives an “all circuits busy” message is encouraged to call the Wareham Police Department directly at 508-295-1212.

Staff at the department will be able to connect residents with the appropriate town agencies.
